5 Modern Vehicles to Consider for Towing Trailering

Towing a trailer behind our vehicles can be hectic. The design of modern vehicles makes it easy for us to move trailers for different purposes. Trailers come in different varieties such as dry van trailers, reefer trailers, and step deck trailers among others. It’s important that we determine the trailer that best suits our cargo. Furthermore, tow vehicles require specific types of trailers to safely tow your cargo. Below, I have described 5 vehicle models from Chevrolet and General Motors. Let’s find out if they best suit our trailering needs.

  1. 2021 SIERRA HEAVY DUTY for Towing

This General Motor model comes in three types; SIERRA HD SIERRA SLE $ SLT, SIERRA HD AT4, and SIERRA HD DENALI. 

  1. SIERRA HD SIERRA SLE SLT – this model can tow up to 36,000 lbs of weight. Its maximum payload is 7442lbs. It has a heavy duty cargo bed volume. Its 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine tags along an Allison 10-speed Automatic transmission. It has a Pro Grade trailering system alongside advanced camera views that enables you monitor your trailer and tow with confidence.
  2. SIERRA HD AT4 – Its maximum payload is 4196 lbs and it can tow up to 21130 lbs of weight. The model has off-road suspension with Rancho shocks and skid plates. Their camera systems provides up to 15 views, Transparent trailer view and an HD surround vision. It has an Allison 10-speed Automatic Transmission and a 6.6 L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 Engine.
  3. SIERRA HD DENALI- With a maximum payload of up to 6,374 lbs this type can tow up to 30,990 lbs of weight. It’s an heavy duty vehicle that has an Allison 10- speed Automatic Transmission with a 6.6 L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine. It’s made of a Multi pro Tailgate and Advanced camera system for roughly 15 views.
  4. 2021 YUKON AND YUKON XL

It’s also a General Motor model that comes in 3 types; YUKON SLE $ SLT, YUKON AT4, and YUKON DENALI.

  1. YUKON SLE $ SLT – This model comes with a 5.3 L V8 with 355 hp and a 10-speed Automatic transmission. It can tow up to 8400 lbs of weight.
  2. YUKON AT4 – It can tow up to 8200 lbs of load. It has a 5.3 L V8 engine with 355 hp, 385 lb feet of Torque and a 10-speed Automatic transmission. 
  3. YUKON DENALI – This is a 6.2 L V8 Engine model with best-in-class 420 hp and 460 lb feet of Torque and a 10-speed automatic transmission. It can tow up to 8200 lbs of load. 
  4. 2021 SILVERADO -2500 HD

This Chevrolet model comes in different types such as LONG BED 2WD, LONG BED 4*4, STANDARD BED 2WD, and STANDARD BED 4*4.

  1. LONG BED 2WD – This model is further of two types 
  • One has a 6.6 L V8 gas engine and depending on its various wheels sizes of 17 inches – 20 inches, the Gross Vehicle Weight Ratio ranges from 9,900 to 10,150 lbs. Its maximum conventional towing weight is 14,500 lbs while its maximum gooseneck 5th wheel towing weight ranges from 17,370 lbs to 17,340 lbs
  • The second has a 6.6 L V 8 Duramax engine with various wheels sizes of 17- 20 inches. Depending on the wheels its Gross Vehicle Weight ratio varies from 10550 -10750 lbs. Its Gross Combined Weight Rating is 26000 lbs. The maximum conventional towing weight is 14,500 with a maximum gooseneck 5th wheel weight of 18,510 – 18,480 lbs.
  1. LONG BED 4*4- It’s of 2 types;
  • A 6.6L V 8 gas engine with wheels of various sizes. Depending on the wheels of 17 inches – 20 inches the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating varies from 10,000 – 10,450 lbs. Its Gross Combined Weight Rating is 24,000 lbs. The maximum conventional towing weight is 14,500 lbs while the maximum gooseneck 5th wheel towing weight varies from 17,060- 17,030.  
  • Its Duramax 6.6L V 8 engine has a Gross vehicle weight rating of at most 11,025 lbs and a Gross Combined Weight Ratio of 26,000 lbs. The maximum conventional towing weight is 14,500 while the maximum Gooseneck 5th wheel weight is 18190.
  1. STANDARD BED 2WD AND 4*4
  • Both of them have2 types depending on their engines; Duramax 6.6 L V 8 and 6.6 L V 8 gas engine. Depending on their wheels sizes of 17inches – 20 inches their maximum conventional towing weight is 14,500lbs and their maximum gooseneck 5th wheel towing is roughly 12,610-17,860 lbs.  The 6.6 L V8 gas engine has a Gross Combined weight Rating of 24,000 lbs while the Duramax engine has a Gross Combined weight Rating is 26,000 lbs.  
  1. 2021 SILVERADO 3500 HD

It’s a Chevy model that has two types of engines; 6.6L V 8 gas engine and a Duramax engine. It comes in 10 models; Long model 2WD SRW, Long bed 2WD DRW, Long bed 4*4 SRW, Long bed 4*4 DRW, Standard bed 2WD SRW, Standard Bed 4*4 SRW, Standard Bed high country 4*4 SRW, Long bed high country 4*4 SRW and long bed high country 4*4 DRW. 

The 6.6L V8 gas engine has a Gross Combined Weight Rating of 24,000 lbs while the Duramax engine has a GCWR of 29,700 lbs. This model has a maximum available torque of 910 lb-feet. Their camera systems provide up to 15 unique views to help you trail with confidence.

This is a GMC mode that has a towing capacity of 4500 and an approximately 1500 pound maximum payload and it has 3 types;

  1. ACADIA SLE $ SLT – It has a 2.0L 4-cylinder Turbo Engine with a 9-speed Automatic Transmission and MPG CITY/ HWY of 22/29.
  2. ACADIA AT4 – It’s a 3.6L V6 Engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission and an Active Torque Control AWD system. Its MPG CITY/HWY IS 19/26
